Will Kids NOT LISTEN! - 09-29-2010, 09:42 AM

Heard on the radio KRLD that a 13 year old boy was showing people pics on his camera phone which he had used to shoot pics of his private parts on, said he was walking around school showing anyone that wanted to see it. (here in metroplex). This kid just about messed up his life, cops have the phone and are looking for more images on it other than the one shot to see what else he has shot.

Don't you know that as soon as you tell a teenager not to do it they think it's a license TO do it?

bad parenting. How long have we known kids were doing this? Why would you buy your kid a camera phone??? If they want a phone, buy them a cheap phone with no camera.

But your a bad parent if you don't give your kids just what they want. "Jimmy has a camera phone why can't I, wah wah wah." If you expect the kids to keep up with the Jones when they are adults you got to start them out early.... and its so much easier to buy a kid something, than to spend time with them.

Do they even make phones without cameras anymore?

Even with good parenting, peer pressure becomes a huge factor junior high through high school. Teens also start developing a mind and will of their own, which, if not directed properly, can become a real problem for even the most solid families.

Personally, I think that, unless someone has teens of their own or has already been through parenting, it's probably better to refrain from giving advice.

Thank you.

My kids are 10 & 11 and their mother (divorced) bought them phones (with camera) when they were 7&8.

You can be the most diligent parent in the world and do everything that any parent is supposed to do and then you still have to cross your fingers and pray that they will do the right things.

Being a parent is no joke. I have 50/50 shared custody of my kids and trying to stay on top of what they are doing and keeping them going in the right direction is a full time job in itself.

Just think of how many kids that you knew growing up who had great parents but still turned out to do completely idiotic things in and out of school.

You sometimes I think we jump to conclusions way to much..boy are boys and boy at that age ( as well as girls) are DUMB...can you boys sit here and tell me you never looked at naughty pics at that age....back in the day when there were no cell phones it was HBO that where the naughty lurked..

I think reguarding stuff like this police involvement is insane..this is a parent/child ( your ganna get our arse whopped) issue..really... because the hormone enraged teenager will probably be label a sexually predator now....STUPID...

We are strict with our kids more than most and they still do stupid stuff everyday...THERE KIDS....dumb stuff is required in order to grow and learn...our society to me is becoming more and more moronic with how we handle situations...especially with in our schools...OVERBOARD!!
For instance my daughter( she is a senior) has a super hero day at school she was going to be, first harry potter, she had a wand and then said crap I cant bring that its considered a weapon!!! WTF...then she was going to be batgirl, so I asked her if she wanted me to paint her face, she said oh well we can only have 1/5th of our face painted 1/5th wtf is that.....OVERBOARD

Let kids be kids again and not mini adults with adult pressures and expectations...no wonder our kids are freaking out in middle school.....

After raising three teenage boys (mother was no help other than to undo everything I did in two weeks in one weekend) and I have to say that you are absolutely correct. Now I have a daughter that is about to turn 7 and it scares me to death where the schools have gone.

I even had to have a teacher conference one day because my youngest was in 8th grade and wanted to use "Mine Comf" for one of his required reading books. The school was basically accusing him of being racist, which I took very personally at that point. The boy liked to read, had read through everything they had that interested him in their library, and was very into history. It was nothing for him to come home and rather watch the history channel than some other wasteful channels at that point. The book was one that my father had as he had very many books on both WWI and WWII.

Is that the same book as Adolf Hitler's Mein Kampf? Just was curious and googled Mine Comf and this is all I found.

I wasn't sure how it was spelled. Was actually very surprised that he was even able to read a book of that level as an eighth grader. Like I said though he was a very big reader and into history. He actually went to state History B (equivelant to a spelling B) and took 6th place that year.

As far as that goes school actually turned him off to reading as much shortly after as they started "requiring" them to read. In doing so they had to read only certain "approved" material that just did not interest him.

The kid was in Garland and the cops are still pursuing the case.

Heck there have been polaroids around since the 50's and not too many kids took picks of their genitals and showed them around so don't make an excuse that since they have a camera on their cell phone that it is cool or acceptable to do now.

I think it goes more now to all the "celebrities" (usually female as the celeb) who have all their "sex" tapes plastered all over the news and parents not covering the topic with their kids as something stupid that people do even though the "celebrities" have been cashing in big $'s on these tapes. Yeah it may be uncomfortable to talk about but jeeze who said raising kids would be easy.

As to the lady who gave her under 10 year olds cell phones, to me that is way to wrong. Parents should know where their kids are at when they are that age because the parents took them to play/visit with that person not because the kid decides to go over and see XXX and then calls mommy and says I'm over at xxx's house or xxx and I went to the mall or whatever.

I wasn't happy that the kids got phones at that age (or now) but I've learned that people/parents are different and I have to be more tolerant of some things that I don't agree with. Just because me or you don't like it doesn't necessarily make it right or wrong. My kids used their phones then and now more as toys than phones.

I went to school in a very small town way back in the 70s and I knew kids (both boys and girls) who occasionally exposed themselves in school just for attention/laughs. Funny thing was everyone knew they did it and no one even ever told. So the fact that some kid is showing pictures of himself on a camera is nothing new just a different way of doing the same thing with modern technology. I'm not saying that it was right but just that this kind of stuff has been going on forever. This kid should be punished accordingly, end of story. The more publicity the more interest other kids will have in doing it.

My 2 cent, now I'm broke. :(
