Things to do in Houston - 09-30-2010, 12:12 PM

I need some help! My dear (and I do mean that) husband flew my two sons in to see me for my birthday - they're 28 and 26. Any suggestions of things to do other than the old familiars of Galveston, Kemah, museums? I've only lived here for about 7 years so I don't know 'em all yet

thanks for the help!

Beth

Really depends on what they're into.

There's the aquarium downtown.
The temps are starting to come down a tad, so there's always the zoo and museums right there.
Houston Coffee and Cars is this weekend; that's good for a couple hours in the AM.

Jake - you're a riot -seriously-made me laugh but I can't leave my husband!
The coffee and cars would be perfect except that I have a meeting I can't miss!

We'll probably end up at Moody Gardens watching the penguins and we can ride the ferry and watch the dolphins play.

There is always ice skating at the Galleria if you kids want to really cool off, as best you can in Hades / Houston. There is also fishing charters, BBSP for the photographically inclined, Lukenbach if you don't mind a small drive and drinking beer.....

Jake is on to something. For the historically inclined, go WEST! Avoid I-10 like the plague.
Next year, take hubby & fly to the kids.
The Astros are closed. The Texans may not be far behind. Ducking for cover.
What do the kidlets enjoy doing? We can't know their tastes and interests. Let them GOOGLE something they like doing or places they like to go.

You could always come up to my neck of the woods and do RenFest in Plantersville. That's always a good time!

The Houston Aeros are playing a couple of pre-season games this weekend, one tonight and one Sunday afternoon. They are far cheaper than pro football or pro baseball, but just as exciting...actually MORE exciting since hockey is almost constant action compared to football or the very slow moving baseball.

You'll find DFW'ers to be some of the least helpful folks in this instance. :) Haters gonna hate.

Weather is beautiful, take a walk around the museum district / Hermann Park. Anything going on at Miller Outdoor Theatre?

Astros have all sorts of promotions this weekend since it's the last homestand (and because they suck). Go to a sports bar and watch the only Texas football team with a winning record. The Buffalo Wild Wings in the Rice Villiage has always been a favorite of mine.
