Do you book other photographers... - 10-06-2010, 02:18 PM

...to photograph you, or your family etc? Have you ever booked another photographer, and paid them full retail for their prints knowing what the hard costs from the labs are? Do you give 'professional courtesy' to other photographers? Opinions? Thoughts?

I just want to hear what people say! I have such a wonderful brother-in-law that I wouldn't have to pay anyone else!

I've never hired a pro photog for portraits, but if I did I would expect to pay full retail for their prints. The hard costs from the labs has little to do with the final cost of prints anyway.
But I'm far to poor to hire a photographer.

I dilly-dallied around one Easter, putting off a session for our kids, when they were small. My wife gave me an Easter surprise. She took the kids to a friend of ours...the most expensive photographer in the area. She paid him full price.

I never dillied, nor dallied, after that.

I shot some shots as a courtesy. I expect the same within reason.

Yes, I have hired a pro twice for the same reason as most people - I like their style of photography. I did not have to buy prints because they gave me a cd with the images for paying their fee.

I think it would depend on who it was and how close you were with them. I couldn't afford to hire myself either. Brad and I have shot each others families several times, but if I walked in to a photographer here in Brownwood, I would expect to pay full price.

I always give discounts to TPF people (shot quite a few of them, including their weddings), and I've shot quite a few photographers, some were discounted and some were not. I've had three photographers shoot me, but one was for Roadside Families (free), the other we shot each other, and Scott Watters offered to shoot me for the TPF calendar.

I've had photogs offer to do my family before. I've also offered to do other photogs before. Often you know someone well enough that you trade out.

No. I expected her to wait till I got a round tuit. I was wrong. As Dave Ramsey would say, "I was wrong, with zeroes behind it."
