Base this on your support for the charity not the chance of getting work in the future. As long as you are supportive of the charity, then I'd say go for it.

Have to ask yourself if the guy/gal on the other end receives a paycheck from this.
I would say don't do it. Nobody is going to check the photo credits and hire you.
We were talking about this last night during Jack Reznicki's presentation. You should choose which organizations you want to benefit; don't let them choose you.

1) Chris would be helping a cause that HE is interested, even if it is across the ocean.
2) This isn't for someone from over there to hire him, but it is something to put in your book that MAY impress someone here. You never know. So combine #1 and #2 and I don't see the problem!

Could you be taking the money away from some South African photographer?
Would it be OK for someone from China to give away free pictures to a group in the USA ? I don't know the answer. Just trying to ask a question.

A for-profit advertising agency has a charity as a client, and they are not getting paid for their work? Charities normally pay like everyone else. Hum.

Paco, you can read up on the company at 60layersofcake.com
I think I'm going to go for it. At the very least it's exposure, and something I can put on my resume. They aren't asking for copyright privileges, and I'm going to ask for copies of any original work.
Put it this way... I'm now on their radar, which may mean other agencies will see my stuff in the future. Especially if other agencies see this agencies work.
I don't know.

People love seeing good tear sheets of your work in use. If you don't have a lot of published work yet, this could be beneficial to you! Quote:

Hum. | That was the first thing that crossed my mind, but then I remembered there ARE some agencies and marketing companies here in Dallas that donate 100% of their effort to special charities. We help on the board of an annual concert to benefit CF research, and a marketing company just signed on to help for free, because the owner has a personal connection to people with CF. So, it's not necessarily a lie...
With that said, I've done a lot of paid shoots for non-profits and not-for-profits... They are used to paying for services, as you pointed out.

Well I got good news.
My friend in Capetown emailed me and said that she had spoken to her local SPCA and they are aware of the SAMAST. However they do state that this is a young organization who is NOT registered with the Animal Welfare Forum, which apparently is a 'better business bureau' type thing for South African non-profits.
They aren't asking for money, they aren't asking me to cash travelers checks, and they aren't even asking for copyright privileges.... so I'm going to allow them to use my images in their email campaign to raise funds. I will ask that they send me at least a high res .jpg file so that I can have it printed and hung on my wall, and I will also ask that if they use them for a second email campaign, that they send me the work so that I can make sure the images are being used appropriately.

They are not a charity themselves, they are running a business. Perhaps it's the case that they are working for free for this client, I have no way of knowing. I was just pointing out that normally charities have payroll and they pay for the services they need to do their good work. Not everything is done thru volunteers or probono work.
As far as I can tell this is just a regular ad agency with clients like "NIKE ID, Subaru, Puma, Glamour, IKEA, GroenLinks, NBC Universal, Shoestring, Bridgestone, Nikon and many more…."
You're doing the right thing is this is all probono for the agency and you'll get a tearsheet out of it. If your business is retail pet portraiture, this tearsheet or visibility you get in SA will not make much of a difference. But a cool poster of your image used for an email campaign is a nice touch.
