Creative Funk - 10-25-2010, 07:34 PM

As some might know with the NASA budgets in limbo, I have been transfered temp to The Corp office. In a way its a good thing as I could be out looking for a job in this time of high employment, But the fact is with a 120 mile round trip drive everyday is wearing me thin. That, and the economy, Vickies real estate market at a standstill, it has me in a creative funk. I am sure everyone faces this at some point.
What did you do to pull yourself out, to get you groove back so to speak.

Change up your routine and get some time to yourself to just empty your thoughts.

Now thats something I hadnt thought of. good idea!! I did enjoy going to the nursing home in Galveston and doing free portraits for them, and they did enjoy getting all fixed up for the photos. now...need to find the time to do it.

Thats part of the problem, so much needs to be taken care of, I have little time for myself lately.

David partially said what I wanted to say...get some perspective...help those less fortunate, look at images, read a novel (this helps the minds eye), and keep an idea journal...

Put the camera down, and go do something else for a few days, maybe a week. Go fishing, build a model, etc. When you come back, you'll have a fresh approach.

When something that you would like to photograph presents itself at a time when you don't have a camera, you will look at it differently than you would if you always have a camera.

Also, find a photo that unlike anything that you would normally do, and try to duplicate it as close as you can. Whatever skills and insight you gain from that, you will apply to what you normally do later on.

Sometimes I find a new toy or technique (such as HDR or timelapse) is all it takes to get the creative juices flowing.

Interesting read, Thanks

And thanks all for the ideas and suggestions. I think I need to stop worring about that I can not control, and do some R&R this weekend. Maybe grab the better half and head out of town for the weekend.
