ROES Software question - 10-27-2010, 09:42 AM

Well - I am a bit stumped about where to put this (feel free to move) - so here goes...

I am switching from SmugMug to a self fulfilled store front and I am having a bit of a conundrum with the ordering software. The problem is ROES. Almost all of the labs that I am looking at offer this as the ordering solution and it is supposed to be very cross platform as long as you have java. Well, I run Linux and do have java up and running. ROES loads correctly, and it does most of the functions but it is horribly slow and I cannot complete the order. I have tried this with 2 of the 3 labs that I am considering and the results are the same. I have also eliminated hardware / computer performance as the cause.

Does anyone use ROES on a linux? Any tricks out there or alternative ordering systems?

In case anyone else experiences this... ROES does not care for OpenJava. Make sure you are using Sun's Java instead (most people do by default).

Have you tried running it via WINE? If all else fails, there's always the option of a tiny WinXP VM with VirtualBox (VirtualBox).

I am not a huge fan of ROES, personally, but it is pretty prevalent.

ETA: What OS (version) are you running and what Java packages do you have installed? I actually just dl'd and tested it and ROES runs perfectly on my laptop - Ubuntu 10.10 (32bit) with Sun Java6 (6.22-0ubuntu1) & the Sun-Java6-plugin.

Amy - that is exactly what I found. Use Sun Java and you are okay. BTW, I'm on KUbuntu 10.10 64bit (now - just upgraded from 10.04 last night)
