Dear lug nut thief - 10-31-2010, 09:17 PM

Dear Lug nut thief,

It won't be necessary to return the 15 lug nuts you stole from my van today, but do you have any idea what may have happen if the 3 wheels that fell off while I was leaving the parking lot had come off while I was driving down the road? I can only hope any crash would have involved you and not some innocent party.

Primary reason that I buy full sets of locking lug nuts...
note however that it is a pain when you are out of town and someone breaks into your truck, cleans out your glove box (including the wheel lock)... then you realize its missing after you are back home some 300+ miles away..... (learned that one the hard way)

I could understand a little if it had been some expensive wheels they were trying to to steal, but this was just plain aluminum factory wheels from a 92 GMC vandura.

this would add about 2 minutes to the amount of time needed for me to steal your wheels.

in addition, this would not solve the majorities issue of safety, as there would only be 1 lug nut left per wheel, and that is even more dangerous than having your wheel fall off in the parking lot. not to mention the "full sets" are usually the easier ones to "break."

Hate to deflate your sense of security but back when I was a mechanic I had this neat little socket with basically hardened blades inside, place it over your locking nuts, one hit from a small sledge, off they come, easy as pie. We used to charge the heck out of the customer who lost their key, paid for the socket the first time I used it, heh.

Shavano Park, is not known for being a hot bed of criminal activity and usually I have officers from there, Camp Bullis, SAPD, Bexar county in and out of the lot every 30 minutes or so. I just can't figure this one out.

was the vehicle recently serviced? I've had them forget to tighten them correctly, and arrived home 20 miles later missing lugnuts.

I'd be looking at someone who has a grudge against you, as it sounds like spite more than theft.

I once lost a set of duals off of my Dodge dualie several years ago because the lug nuts hadn't been tightened after getting new tires. But this was not a case like that.
