Who to use for Image Hosting? - 11-19-2010, 10:52 AM

I've been using photobucket, but would like to start using somewhere that will allow me to upload the original size files instead of shrinking them. Anybody have any preferences on the other options available out there?

Tommy

Free: Flickr, Picasa
Paid: Smugmug, pbase, zenfolio

I'm sure I'm missing a few, others will chime in with their additions

I have used smugmug and they were good. But I have really liked going self hosted. But that is better for geeks than anything else (guilty here).

I use smugmug and enjoy the flexibility of the site. Ordering prints is costly due to shipping but their processing is good. Additionally, when I ask for luster paper I get luster paper and not matte.

Photobucket has a pro version also, I've been using it for over year with no real complaints. It allows you to upload your original file sizes.

Guilty as charged. I use Gallery 2 and will go to Gallery 3 soon.

I've used and like Gallery, but it seems a bit bloated and doesn't always work like I'd like it to.

I've decided to move over the PhotoShelter. It's a bit more expensive than some of the other options but is used by alot of pro's and has a lot of pro functionality and, as a photographer of people including nudes, terms of service that I could live with.

Gallery 2 had some issues, mostly navigation and figuring out exactly how to configure it to give access when, where, and who you want. It took a while and some testing and reading forum entries but I have it just the way I want it now.

Additionally since I do IT, hosting, ect., I got some of the developers of Gallery to help me make some changes to make it more useful.

I especially like the security of the program knowing that my images won't end up on someone elses site unless I want them to.
