LEGO architectural series - 11-29-2010, 02:16 PM

These are sooo cool! My boys would have died to have these sets when they were younger. Hopefully it will inspire a whole new generation of architects and engineers.

I almost bought the Willis Tower one when I was at the Willis Tower in Chicago. I thought they were very cool. Barnes and Noble Bookstores carries them too.

When I was little, all we had to play with were rocks and sticks and even then, we had to borrow the rocks from the neighbor kid.

My husband passed his old Legos on to our boys (and he's 51), so on top of all the sets we bought them when they were little, they have tons! I actually ended up buying clear stackable drawers to store them all in. They're definitely timeless toys.

My sons are not much older, and they love Legos! The 2 1/2 yr old can't do a lot with them, but he takes them apart and hands the pieces to me. My 4 and 5 yr olds have a ton of fun with the blocks and can build some pretty cool things already! I think kids start do productive stuff with Legos around 3 1/2 to 4 yrs.

By the way, they need a Reunion Tower and a Jerry's Death Star for the architectural series. Though, Jerry's stadium might take a lot of bricks to build!

For several years I got my nephew Lego sets for every birthday & Christmas. I was always amazed at the structures he was able to build with them and I thought he might have engineering or architecture in his future. He graduates this spring with a degree in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.

Very cool Dan! My boys always thought it would be a dream job to design for Lego. I can't even imagine the competition for that!

One of their designers is a guy who left his day job to work for them. He used to be a corporate lawyer in NY and he won a contest they put on.

For more Lego fun, somewhere in Youtube you can see a Lego knitting machine. There's also the guy who did the Lego bible and there are a slew of Lego churches.

Up until very recently, my kids would have picked Legoland over Disneyland in a heartbeat.

The actual Lego company and Legoland are two separate ventures, and Legoland also hires builders/designers. I made it to the finals for an "American Idol" sort of nationwide competition for a builders job at Legoland California. I was even on TV in Dallas with the two other Dallas finalists. However, I dropped out before going to the CA finals, because I knew I would never actually move to CA and take the job if I won. It didn't pay very well, and I don't want to live in CA... but, at least I was on TV for winning a Lego contest and was put in all their marketing and promo material for the competition! It is a good memory...

I bought my little bro the Hancock Center Set from the top of the Hancock Center in Chicago over the summer.
