DSLR photography classes in D/FW? - 12-01-2010, 01:34 PM

I am somewhat new to photography and am trying to ween myself off of using the full auto and program modes on my Canon T1i. I am interested in taking a class or two that will go into some more detail and hands on training with the manual settings of my camera.

Can any of you suggest a class in the D/FW area? I live near Denton, but work in South Arlington, so anywhere in-between would be fine. I'm also not looking to break the bank just yet, so more of an introductory type class is what I'm looking for. I would also appreciate any opinions on on-line classes vs. in person classroom courses.

Thanks for your help!

I highly recommend the photo classes at Northlake College. The staff is very knowledgeable, and the lab has some nice equipment (imacs, and Epson printers). Registration is under way for Spring 2011 classes. They have 4 different levels for digital photgraphy.

I suspect that just about any of the public junior colleges would offer Photography classes. I took one from Collin College, but that is a bit out of your way. However, one of the women in my Photography class lived in Denton. She commuted all the way to the Spring Creek Campus in East Plano because, she said, that is the best school for Photography in the area.

I agree with Tom. Northlake College has an excellent program. It is in Las Colinas, off 114 so I'm not sure how that would work with your commute. I think they offer Photo 1 on Saturdays as well if that would work better. Very affordable for the value - alittle more than $100 per semester.

Thanks for all of the input. The Northlake classes look like a real bargain for the money, but classes aren't starting until the spring. I may end up taking a class from there, but I'm really looking for something to do over the next 6 weeks.

I know that Arlington Camera and some other local shops offer classes/workshops. Have any of you attended one of these or know whether or not they are worth the $50-$75 for a one day class?

Richland and El Centro both have good photo classes, too.
