CIA Jobs.... HUH??? - 12-06-2010, 10:18 PM

Does the current advertisements for the CIA concern anyone else but me? I mean with all the ads for technical, cooking & nursing schools, suddenly there's a commercial to become a real live SPY for the US government. We certainly need spies, but when I see ads sandwiched between afternoon talk shows and Jerry Springer re-runs it makes me wonder... is this really how we want to find CIA operatives?

I prefer the method I saw a couple of years ago. They actually did a reality TV show and the winner got a CIA job. One week, the assignment was to get intel on their mark and the girl who won posed her partner near them and made it look like she was taking her partner's photo. Another week they had to make a drop without getting caught.

I haven't seen any of those ads (of course, I don't really watch any ads...DVRs are a blessing).

So, is there really an issue? CIA, NSA, DIA, NRO, all need qualified people, it is not like they were advertizing for the NCS.

Doesn't bother me. I'm just surprised that they are recruiting openly like that, I thought they liked to skulk the halls of our university systems looking for just the right qualities in a field agent...and that would be someone with uber-intelligence combined with the dark inclinations of a serial killer.

Right, I thought the same thing...

Yeah, the ads are kind of odd.

They have been running radio spots here in Dallas for the "National Clandestine Service for about a year If only I were a younger man I could be across between "Chuck" and "Jack Ryan"

I have heard those ads around the country for quiet some time. You would be amazed though at some of the people that are in the CIA. A former High School classmate works their in there Forensic Accounting Dept. In High School he was just a big dumb jock on the track team.

Saw one a while back and it struck me odd. One of the reasons for this may the reluctance of so many of our finer institutions of higher learning to allow organizations/agencies like this to recruit on campus.

Personally I think too many ... sorry 'bout that.

Actually those ads are very true. I was reading up on an opening for a Graphic Designer. Thought that was the weirdest thing. Spying on countries one flyer at a time! :D
Would be nice, but maybe not for me. Not to mention I would have relocate to the DC area.

Most jobs for the CIA aren't spies. They always have a need for analysts in many areas; math majors, accounting majors, computer majors, etc. A great job but you have to start out living in the DC area. If I was single and straight out of college again I would definitely consider a position there. It would definitely be an interesting job.

Skills like forensic accounting, statistical analysis, etc. are in high demand in most federal law enforcement agencies, including the clandestine services, i.e. the CIA.

Pay starts out low but quickly raises to very good pay, benefits and retirement.

I don't think its strange at all.

They've actually been hosted on a morning radio show here in town a few years ago. They are really trying to get female "spies", so I can imagine the shows being aired (jerry springer = drama), showing an advertisement after one for a nursing school (mostly female occupation), they are catering to the gender they want..

But who knows. Thats what I'd think!

The commercial is for "clandestine services"... nothing is said about any other jobs... just a beautiful young woman meeting with someone at a little cafe... makes me wonder if they're wanting something in particular in their candidates?
