They are advertising on TV in the DFW marker-set up in the Colony-doing a lot of Greenscrean work Jumbo Shots - The Next Evolution of Photography and Fundraising Running a $99 shoot special but looking at the website it looks like a # to get people through the door and then they upsell them quite a bit.

25K+ sq ft facility so wonder who is the $$ behind them-noticed that they are even marketing to weddings where they will also cater the event.

Have not heard anyone mention anything about them and how their work is but a couple of the shots on their website are really cheesy.

Jumbo Shots - 12-14-2010, 03:12 PM

Jumbo Shots is a new Comapany that does Action Photograpy. All the backrounds are imposed with different fantasys, action, movies, music ect..
If you ask me i think its very cool and not cheesy. they use a green screen effect and put you in the differnt action shots. Their staff is very nice and helpful. Its definately different and not borning. It takes photography to a new level! You should check out the website or call the studio. Good luck ;o)

I think it's kind of fun, definitely creating a new photo niche. I think it could be fun for kids, especially if they make some "super hero" templates or something.

It's cheese I can get into

The cheese i was refering too were that a couple of the shots used on the website were a bit cheesey not all. The green screan idea is cool but people have been doing GS for quite a while now (btw you can also use white, video grey, red and blue as the backdrop to do the PS work with -it just depends on the colors of the primary subject in the scene as to which you use).

As to up sales it can be kind of hiffen by showing you all the "items that you can buy" after the $99 setting fee which includes some product.

Saw an advert on Monster by them looking for sales staff saying that they can make up to $65K a year (based on commissions) but has a $10 an hour base which to me shows pressure to sell additional products because I bet they get probably a 20% or so commision on the upsales since the shoot is pretty much the same thing so no additional time in the studio.

It looks like a good concept but the size of the facility to me just looks like there is some $$$ behind them since the lease on that and utilities has to run close to $20K a month (25,000+ sq ft x $8 a sq foot=$+200,000 a year just for the lease plus utilities on a facility that large has to run a couple thousand a month) so not many photographers can come up with that scratch along with the build out costs even if it is a group of several shooters.

I would say good luck to them but it may be a bit harder than they think in the current state of the economy.

One reason that I put this up is that they talk on the website about hosting weddings and corporate functions which would affect a lot of shooters on the site here since those are their bread and butter businesses.
