So.... - 12-20-2010, 12:57 AM

I did the photagraphy at my BIL's wedding. Did ok and considering i didn't know much came out with some good stuff. WELL I also use a digi scrapbook program and put together a book for them. Came out AWESOME but I can't help but be irritated when ALL my family is like "your a pro" and blah blah blah.

I am like No and sometime i will show you a pro.

I mean I get that they like the pictures and they like my book and stuff but UGH I am not a pro (just waiting for the onslaught of Can you take my pictures??)

Family always gets excited when they see you do something good. Sure, you might not be a 100% true "pro", but you are a lot closer to being one than they are... and, they admire you for that! Just tell them, "Thanks for the compliment! I might not be a true pro just yet, but I am excited to provide you with some nice images. I'm glad you liked them!"

There's nothing wrong with receiving a nice compliment on your work.

Family and friends praises are nice to have and they are just from friends and family. A paying client is what matters and word of mouth goes much further.

Sometimes it is hard for me to accept compliments. Don't get me wrong I LOVE LOVE LOVE how things turned out but to be called a pro is weird. Dunno mainly a vent. I don't want to say things like this to their face.

A few years back a second cousin asked me if I'd shoot her wedding: I'm not a pro, have no plans of being a pro, and DANG sure don't do weddings... Don't want to, you can't make me.. I'm sure I ticked her off turning it down, but I'm awfully glad I did in hindsight: I really don't see how such an operation, for free, for somebody who at some level of consciousness wants pro-level wedding photography, is anything but fraught with peril... IF you do good, you're going to be expected to do the next family wedding. If you do lousy, you're dirt forever...

LOL I only did it because NO ONE would help hire a pro who had offered a VERY GENEROUS offer (she is my friend) and sadly I did well Seriously though I did alright and now all my family is like " You are a PRO" *shaking head*
