Arrow Bad RAM detected via Windows utility - 12-20-2010, 12:43 PM

I've been getting occasional Blue Screen errors with my Windows 7 box. An IT friend suggested checking for bad memory. I ran the Windows memory utility, and the result was that one of the modules is bad. However, it doesn't tell me which one. There are two installed, and the test ran two passes. Does anyone know if that would be one pass per module? The first pass came up clean; the problem was detected on the second pass.

I had the same issue (except I have four sticks) I had to re-run the test on each stick until I found the bad one. Sent it back to Crucial and things have been on the up and up since... takes some time, but its worth it

Okay. I'll remove one stick, re-run the test, and do again for the other stick if necessary. I had this problem with another system many years ago, but I couldn't remember how I proceeded.

Thanks.

Thanks.

I would do both sticks regardless, just to make sure you cover everything

Determined which module is bad. Five-year warranty. It's sitting on my shelf awaiting RMA.

Glad to read you found the bad stick. I had a similar issue wth Win 7, except it wouldn't install. Finally figured out it was a bad memory stick, thanks to a Linux utility I ran on the box.
