I decided to finally get an iPad but a buddy told me that the new version was due out soon. I check the Apple site and they are expected to be in stores in April of 2011.

Aren't they smaller?

I thought I read they were only 7".

The iPad 2 is supposed to be thinner - but not smaller. The prototypes that have shown up on the web are all the same 9.5 inch size as the original iPad - albeit with a thinner body and a front and rear facing camera.

There was a leak from a supplier shortly before Christmas about this. I read it upset Apple as they felt it would impact sales negatively.

You might be correct Andy. It might have been one of the Mac rumor sites. I cannot recall now that you mention it.

I am also looking at the new Samsung Android powered PAD. It is a smaller footprint, 7" instead of 10". It is just that all my calendaring is done on my Mac. It would be nice to have near seamless integration.

I've been an Apple fanboy for quite some time, but I still avoid the iPad. Until it gets an HDMI out port (possible one day) and support Flash (which will never happen) I will wait until a tablet with (at least) these two items is available...hear that Apple? Of course not, you don't listen anymore.
I know what you are saying, "Flash is dying and HTML5 is the future." That's fine, I'm good with that, but there is still a ton of Flash content out there on the sites that I use on a regular basis, so right now I NEED Flash for the short term future...one, two years tops. And in one or two years when HTML5 takes a firm hold, it will be time to replace the tablet anyway, then I will get the newest iPad as I won't have the need for Flash support and if it does not have HDMI out by that time, then there is something SERIOUSLY wrong! LOL!!
