I know the iphone can stream stations but the main reason I would like a FM radio in my phone is to listen to the tv shows etc while at the gym since theyre broadcasted on radio frequenices.

I've been saying this for years. iPhone has the room for it and they can easily implement it. Apple just like to release little stuff like that over time to make more sales. Maybe it'll be on the next iPhone refresh?
And a friend of mine has a Zune HD that picks up HD Radio signal. Why can't they put that in there too? Can't be too hard.

Your gym doesnt have the little units on the equipment to plug head phones into that pick up the TV?

You all need to look at the apps I Heart Radio & Tune In Radio. Clear Channel runs the I Heart Radio App. I listen to music from all over the world on Tune In Radio.

Tune in radio is a great app, but I dont think it will pick up the signals being transmitted from the local gym.

^You are correct. It does not pick up radio signals, only certain stations that are streamed over the internet.
