My Mom's in hospital - 01-01-2011, 09:08 AM

I took off a week to stay at hospital with her and first couple of days at home. Staying overnight each night in her room. After a long debate with myself, I decided that taking a camera with me would be impractical. Watching over and keeping up with my laptop would be enough. I live in Ft Worth, the hospital is in Tyler. This means a small bag with clothing to stack in the corner as well. So what do I see when I pull into the parking lot except something I am itching to photograph. A helicopter pad (and the helicopter) right in the middle of the parking lot... Just my luck. My phone is a cheap on and it's camera is crummy...Oh well... bet I NEVER leave home without at least my point and shoot again!!! I keep seeing so many angles I want to shoot every time I look at the parking lot. Kool sign: Beware of Rotor Wash

Best wishes for you and mom. Take a camera everywhere. After all these years, I still don't do it.
I now find that a camera can take my mind away from all the bad things going on.

The sign " Beware of Rotor Wash" is misleading. Rotor wash is great for a myriad of things like drying you hair, cleaning your teeth, "dusting off" your clothes, drying your car after a good cleaning and finally blowing leaves. If you can get some flight line and 100 mile an hour tape you can actually dry your clothes in a few minutes and get a great cardiovascular workout chasing clothes.
I hope your mother is doing well and that she recovers quickly. Angels watch over her.

I would think it would be a great opportunity to get some stock photos for the healthcare industry.

But, I am always looking for a money shot.

Those air evac services advertise a lot, great opportunity to kill time while Mom is resting.

My elderly parents are often in dr. offices and labs and stuff.

Saw on the news last week where a CBS affiliate chopper in oklahoma used the rotor wash to move a calf that was stuck on a frozen stock pond back to shore.

Thanks everyone.....
She is doing well. It was a pelvic fracture that required screws and plates. Took her home today. It was a 2 hour drive and we are all exhausted this evening. Tomorrow will be a better day
I am staying at my Mom's for a few days before the 4 hr drive for me to get home. Mom lives way out in country. I will borrow my sisters DLSR and take some pics before I go home. There is a red-tailed hawk they said has been hanging out in the area.

Glad you got to take her home.
You have a great sister.
I don't know how many times I've seen the helipad there over the years, never occured to me to look at it photographically. There are so many things around Tyler to shoot. Next trip to Tyler, photo safari!
