Ever light a BonFire with a LASER BEAM..... TriCoast has... - 01-01-2011, 09:23 AM

Our annual bonfire in Cody's backyard for NYE which is always lit in a different manner. One year a flair gun, one a bowling ball on fire, one a TnT type box, this year.....

LASER BEAM!

Enjoy and hope all has a wonderful, rich and safe New Year for 2011.

Small Print: This is a REAL Laser purchased in a legal manner. Please do not email me anymore saying we broke the law by doing this. We checked everything was legal per the people we checked with who are "in the know" for our area. So just enjoy the video and again Happy New Year.

Now that the price of lasers has fallen so much, everyone thinks they are a laser tech. "Grandma has a laser; I'll get her to light the bonfire!" I went to college for 2 years to learn how to operate and maintain lasers. I've spent thousands of dollars to learn my craft, only to watch a bunch of rednecks go play with lasers in the woods and act like they are hot shots. This is why I cannot get a good job as a laser tech! It will always have to be a hobby for me.

I wonder what wattage they used?

HA! Bitter Much this New Year Day! Relax its all in good fun I am sorry you take offense to something that should be fun. I am still confused that by me lighting a fire in the woods with a laser I purchased online, I by myself have kept you getting a job. Yep that is perfect logic, when you fail lets blame someone else so you wont really see the real issue. Again I am not trying to be rude but since you called me a "bunch of rednecks go play with lasers in the woods and act like they are hot shots". I must admit I do take a little offense to it when I did nothing towards you.

Happy New Years to everyone, seriously I hope 2011 is a wonderful year.

Its an annual thing with us, has been for years. We always light the fire in a different manner, be it a Bow, a Flare Gun, a bowling ball on fire, Roadrunner and Coyote TnT type box, and now a Laser Beam with a target to redirect the beam to make a spark. No telling what we will do next year but its all good Texas fun.

Whoa, this awesome video!! You've definitely set the bar on how to do a bonfire. Is that a Spyder 3 1w?

LOL! Chill out man... the op was just having fun and sharing some good times, no need to be a buzzkill. He never claimed to be a hot shot or a laser tech... plus I can't even remotely guess how him doing this is stealing your job. Use that kind of logic and no wonder you don't have job you want.

Hey, his lifelong dream was to be one of the select few that could light a fire in the woods with a laser, and to travel the world lighting fires for big bucks: now anybody can do it.

Laser Used: High Power Blue 1W Laser | S3 Spyder III Arctic

Shoot it into a glass panel to direct the light onto a little gun power to create a spark. Rest is easy.

Its real easy, so easy it would be harder to fake it to be honest.

Pretty cool, but now what are you going to do with it? I can certainly see the "cool" factor the first time around, but on a long-term basis I'd hate to have to live with knowing that I spent three hundred bucks on a laser in order to replicate the effect of a match that you can get for free at about any bar.

Mike-
To be fair, you have self described as redneck more than once.

And you are from Southern Brazoria County. ;)

I thought it was cool.

And the news headline starts with... "As he burst into flames.... "
