I work 10 hour days here, and by the time I get home, it's dark outside and it's only 6pm.

Only thing I have to shoot on weekdays are things around the house and man that's getting boring.

The weekends, are pretty much the only days I get to actually shoot my surroundings.

Anyone been in a similar situation like this? Wanting to get some time in behind the camera, but works all hours of the day?

I think that applies to about 90% of the members of this board. Including myself.

A bit depressing isn't it? Well, maybe to more novice photographers like myself.

Yeah, it kind of sucks during the winter months. If you can do something on your lunch break that helps. Also, it's a good time to experiment with off camera lighting (one flash and some cheap radio triggers (I like yongnuo CTR-301 on ebay) is plenty to get started). Just make sure to take advantage when the sun stays out longer!

I hear ya. Hate winter and short days. Ive been playing with waterdrops, smoke, and the such just to use the camera. The weekend is the only time I can muster to get out and shoot some wildlife, and thats not too often I might add.

I work a night shift in an office Sunday through Wednesday. Have to just look at sunsets on the way to work, and the sunrise is done by the time I head home, but Friday and Saturday can be fruitful.

Don't let sunlight limit your outdoor photography. It may not be exactly what you are wanting to photograph, but it can be a valuable learning experience to shoot equivalent exposures with a stop watch and bulb setting. You will be amazed at how much light a camera can gather up if you leave the shutter open for 30-180 seconds on a street at night.

Put the camera in ISO 100-400, choose f/8 and then experiment with how long to leave the shutter open.

It can be a fun and neat photographic experience.... cold but fun

Nevermind -- I'll take care of it myself!
