YouTube Is Forcing Us To Link To A Google Account - 01-11-2011, 12:39 AM

I just got this notice from YouTube when I tried to sign onto my account:

"You will no longer be able to sign in to YouTube without a Google Account.
If you do not want to link this YouTube account, you can sign out here."

I *hate* linking accounts! YouTube claims that "Improved security
Better security reduces the chance of account theft." I don't buy it! Single Sign-On means that whoever hacks one account gets into all accounts.

hmmm... I was just about to go upload a video. I'll see what I get.

Update: Yeah, it asked me to link, too. I tried to do it, and now I just get error pages. This sucks, because I want to load a 600 meg video and my vimeo account will only accept 500 megs. That means I can't use them as a backup option.

Only for new sign-ups... they are just now phasing out the old users with youtube sign-ins.

Jason is right, and I haven't had a problem with the linking to my google account. Everything still works the same. Google owns YouTube, so they get to do with it what they will. Oh well. No skin off my back.
