A lot of nice images there. However, I'm not sure why the fourth from the top of October is in there?!? I guess they wanted to show the president more than they wanted to show a great photo. The event itself is very touching (giving a medal to the parents of a fallen soldier), but the photo is about as boring/bad as it gets. Just look at the great photos above and below it for comparison. The president's photo looks like something out of the local Penny Saver free publication.

Thanks, a friend of mine is an 'ex'-marine field artillery and he enjoyed the joyed the shot for Oct 10th. He was examining if they were safe and the type of round which was fired.

This is a perfect example for people wanting to improve their editing skills. Just because he's the president, it doesn't make it a good photo. I have some photos of celebrities that are just so-so. They would never make it in my "best of" portfolio just because they are famous faces.

If I had two photos that were equally good and one had a famous person while the other one didn't... well, the famous pic would probably make it in. If I had one famous person pic that was blah and one great pic without a famous person in it, you bet the blah famous pic is going to see the trash can!

I want to be remembered for taking great pics, and a crappy pic of Obama won't cut it. I'd much rather be the guy who took the pic above or below that photo. Those had energy, excitement and even basic composition. Did they not have another photo of the president interacting with the military over the course of the whole year?!? There had to be a better shot of him somewhere...

Bottom line is this: A famous face doesn't make a photo good. That photo should've been pulled to make room for one of their other amazing photos. You know they have tons to choose from.

Could be that it was the best they had for that event?

Well, that leads you to ask if they were required to show a photo from each event they shot, or if it truly was a "best of the month's photos" on display? Sure, I wouldn't choose a second great photo of a cannon shooting, because that would be redundant - which is almost as bad as having a blah photo in the portfolio. But, you know they shot more than ten different events that month. They have shooters all over the world! I'm more surprised that is the best photo of the president the Army has from all year?!?

Anyway, I spotted a few other duds as I looked through other months. My guess is they just had a poorly skilled editor pull that together. With all the great shots I've seen come from the Army photogs, they should have 100% wow factor in every single image they put in that "best of".
