Today Launches the Dallas Voice Readers Choice Awards For LGBT Owned Companies in Dallas Fort Worth. I Looked on the Ballot to Find No Category for Media or Photographers. So I promptly emailed the voice and asked them why and they told me this....

David forwarded your question to me about there not being a photographer category in the 2011 RVA.

Each year we go through and revise the ballot. One purpose is to add new items and take out previous items and make sure the ballot is a manageable size.

It must not look overwhelming when a reader opens it -- “Holy Crap! This will take 45 minute to complete!” Trust me .. Readers are survey weary.

We have had photographer in the past and will in the future, but it is a low interest item compared to say Best Pizza. I hate to break the news, but you just can’t compete with food.

We will have photographer again."

So I am asking my Fellow Photographers for your help.

What do i say or respond to that?

I am just so upset that someone would say something like that.

Well if you get a chance go to Dallas Voice :: Readers Voice Awards 2011 and you can vote for Arcus Media or any other LGBT Photographer or Media under Local Arts Organization or Better yet Vote for us under the PIZZA Category!

I'm reading this as I'm sitting down to one of San Antonio's best pizzas for lunch (Goombas). I'm with Rob, why get worked over about something as menial as this. If awards are what you are worried about in business then that business is already on the road to failure. Please don’t take this the wrong way, although I’m sure it will be hard to, but that was a statement in general and not at your business.

I agree with the letter. You can't compete with food, and especially not pizza!

Eric, for the record, had I used your services I might well voted for you in a show of support. A write in campaign is not a bad idea. By the was, I liked the response from the paper/magazine. I thought it was well crafted. If you decide to answer be sure to thank them for their time and encourage them to reintroduce photographer/artist in the near future. Above all be pleasant.

Yep. Get used to those 4 letters, you are going to be seeing them a lot (if you haven't, already). That's all I can say about that without getting political or religious or both.

why would it need to be a LTBG photographer, is something wrong with the normal ones?

I was kinda thinking that too, id rather be the best photographer, not the best black photographer, or the best bald-headed photographer. But thats just me, to each his own.

i used to be the best bald-headed photographer but i let my hair grow out a little. does that make me the best photographer now? LOL
