I felt the exact same way until I bought one last summer. Since then, I probably use it two plus hours a day - and I use my computer much less now that I have the iPad.
Here's what I use it for:
1) Reading the NY Times online - the iPad app makes it very similar to reading a real newspaper
2) Reading a downloaded book. With my iPad case, I can prop the iPad on my lap without holding it and read in low or no light. It is a darn good ebook reader.
3) Using Flipboard app to keep up with my friends and family on Flickr through their recent photo postings. Once again, the app makes the experience so much richer than going to Flickr and checking on each contact one by one.
4) Using it as a digital photo frame when not in use. If you have 1,000s of photos on your Flickr photostream that you'd like to see, you can get a free Flickr HD app that allows you to randomly view your own photostream (assuming you have a wifi connection) - or anyone else's for that matter - as a 15 second ongoing slideshow. Since the resolution on the iPad is so good, it really is a great way to "see" photos that have been buried for months or years.
5) And of course, for checking email. It does that effortlessly as well.
I didn't think I needed or wanted or would use the iPad.
I was really wrong.
It is probably the most helpful technology gadget I have purchased in the last five years....and I can envision a time in the not too distant future when every household will have one - or more - tablets in their possession.
