When is your anniversary? My husband and I always give the gift of travel for anniversaries, so this is a project right up my alley. Sounds like you are looking for something that is driving distance? We loved Cibolo Creek Ranch, which is south of Marfa, although it's a bit pricey. I think there are some other cool hotel options in Marfa and Alpine. Driving over to White Sands NM could be fun - I absolutely love spending time there with my camera, but it's not the most romantic of trips if your spouse isn't into the photography aspect.

If you are talking about traveling a bit later in the year, you can't beat the N. Rim of the Grand Canyon and staying in the cabins for the ultimate views and just a really magical experience.

Other great anniversary trips with bonus photo options (although not meeting the 5-hour or less travel goal): Colonial Williamsburg, Asheville NC and the Biltmore Estate, Charleston SC, Savannah GA, the mid and southern Oregon Coasts, San Francisco, New Orleans, Victoria BC, Portland, Vancouver....well, you get the idea.

We hit 20 this year and we're counting the days for our next trip as well. Happy anniversary (or, as they say where we're headed for our anniversary/Christmas/Valentine's all rolled into one, Joyeux anniversaire).

Find a B&B in Fredericksburg. They'll be lots of scenery to try that lens out on.

+1 I was just thinking this when you mentioned B&B as they are well known for this. That and they have a lot of 'chik' stuff to do while there that the women love to walk around and look at.

Yep. I've spent a lot of time there in the past. My wife and I even spent our honeymoon there in a b&b. It's a great place.

Thank you all so much! The wife found a place called The Drift Inn. We have decided to go there. Has anyone been there?

We had a GREAT time at The Drift Inn! We relaxed, we ate at the original Salt Lick (oh my goodness, that was fantastic food), took a tour at West Cave Preserve and then spent a night on the riverwalk in San Antonio.

Wayne...looks like I'm a little late. Glad you found a great place to go. We lived in Big Spring (and you thought you lived in the middle of nowhere!!!) for 13 years. We went to NM to the caves? wish I could remember the name. Although I wasn't too excited about it at first, they really were pretty exciting to walk through. You might think about that next time.
