Suggestions for where to spend our 15 year Anniversary Weekend - 01-23-2011, 07:02 PM

The wife and I have our 15 year anniversary coming up and we would like suggestions on where we could go. She bought me a new 24-70L lens for Christmas and I would love to find a scenic place to run it thru its paces. We live in Midland, so I would like to keep the travel time down to around 5 hours. We are flexible so please let the suggestions fly. And please post photos, if you have them, of the places you suggest.

The Lodge in Cloudcroft is a very nice place to stay and get away for the weekend.

Well i have never been married but for our one year i took her flying from Spring to Galveston and then back to Spring through Sugarland. Depending on where you live you could charter a small engine plane to another city and have a fabulous dinner and then fly back. For me it was very affordable....around 200 for the one hour flight

Thanks, do you have any particular place that you have been in those cities that you would recommend?

A few years ago, for her birthday, I chartered a plane and flew her over the city. She loved it.

Thank you all for taking the time to reply. We have lived in Midland for over 10 years and have been to many of the West Texas cities. I look forward to more suggestions and am hoping to see some more specific recommendations. A scenic overlook? A bed n breakfast that you loved, botanical gardens, etc. The wife and I really enjoyed a B N B in Fredericksburg.

I've been to Ft. Worth a couple of times and thought it was a great place. Good museums, great zoo, a western stockyards section, they have a great rodeo going on right now. Don't go during superbowl week but other than that you should have a lot of choices. It's about 5 hrs from midland.

We were thinking along those same lines last year! Here are some of the photos I took when we went.

Bosque del Apache near Socorro, NM. Would be over 5 hours though.

Our friends house in Alto, but I don't think this would work for you.

Shop the strip in Ruidoso. Cloudcroft has a gallery run by and featuring the creations of 2 fabulous weaving artists. Great guys. White Sands is breathtaking. Stop and buy some pistachios along the way. : )
