FPS Information Bulletin

This is a memo to law enforcement officials that photographers are not terrorists. Apparently, a lot of them need reminding.

I'm glad the DHS is making a clear statement that the public has the right to photograph federal buildings from public places. At least we can get that cleared up!

Nice, but I doubt it will do much good except as a defense to prosecution. If a LEO does not know the protocol, the guy he approaches on the street is not going to sway him.

Thank you for sharing. I am, currently, skeptical regarding the authenticity of the document but I will continue to search. I do like that they provided the US Code, Title 41, Section 102-74.420. I will at least be able to verify that information as well.

I found further information that supports the posting here.

Antonio Musumeci was arrested on Nov. 9, 2009, after using a hand-held camera to record a protestor in a public plaza outside the Daniel Patrick Moynihan Federal Courthouse in Manhattan.

There is a pretty good blog about the incident that started this mess here:

This was published yesterday by the NY Times. I think it is pretty authentic.

Hello Thomas and Lonnie. I hope that no offense was taken because none was intended. Thomas, you did not provide any corroborating evidence only a link to "scribd" which I do not count as authoritative. The markup within the document also appear suspicious. I was able to find the NYTimes article as well as the blog I linked which I thought was a better write up. I further corroborated the evidence with an article from the federal times website and was able to find a PDF document from one of the .gov sites which I did not save. Will have to look for that one again.

I was able to fortify Thomas' assertions to my satisfaction.

I think the more confirmation on a subject, the better! I just don't like when people start a whole new thread with the info, and everything gets disconnected and hard to find.
