Open House at the GM plant? What is your Opinion? - 01-31-2011, 02:48 PM

What is your opinion?
I am wondering if this is worth the effort to go to the free tour of the production facility in Arlington. Has anyone been to the Arlington Plant or taken a tour of a facility like this plant, I also understand you CAN take your camera on the tour. Will it be worth the effort?

Thumbs up Sounds Like Fun - 01-31-2011, 03:58 PM

I've never been, but anything new and different as possible photography subjects sounds like some fun.

I don't think that they allow tours very often so I would jump on it if you have the time.

Maybe they'll offer free shifter knobs to the first 50 guests?!? Seriously, though... if you have free time and are looking for something different, why not do it? It's gotta be better than going to the mall.

Michael, I work for GM and went through the Arlington plant a few years ago for a work related meeting. It's an interesting tour as far as seeing how the trucks are made. Not sure if you would consider it photo worthy though. You will probably only be allowed on the catwalks & not on the assembly floor.

I went on a special tour with members on another forum to the Shreveport GM plant that produces the Colorado/Canyon. They had food and a carshow set up for us, also a door prize/drawing and goodie bags. Great people. They did not allow us to take cameras into the plant though. I think it was really a great opportunity to see how the vehicle I drive is made.

Huh? What??? What does that have to do with this thread? This topic is about touring a car manufacturer's plant, not becoming a "film intructor".
