Depending on intensity or humidity level, I have used water to get a reading and usually after a few minutes I warmed up and enough moisture to keep heart rate.
I am guessing a medical supply company might carry it. Actually a drug store might also carry electrode gel.

Mark: Thanks. I have two drug stores close by so I'll check with them. I tried water without any success. I've heard aloe gel works too.
John: I think I'll pass. LOL

Get this. No matter what I do to try to get my new Garmin to register my heart rate, it just won't do it. However, when my 18 yo. son puts it on, he registers with no problem. I tried again, and nothing. I've tried wetting the contacts with water, and applied some Aloe Vera gel at the suggestion of someone in a forum. Still nothing. Weird. Absolutely weird.

You have a reflection in the mirror right?
I mean, you're no vampire right?
jk, seriously though...
It is weird that it'll work for your son, but not you.
Try replacing the batteries in the chest piece maybe? Perhaps they're just on that side of "weak" that they work for him, but not you. I don't know, just spit balling. | | | |

Electrode gel to be delivered tomorrow. If it doesn't fix the issue, the monitor gets returned for another model and possibly another make.

I resurrected my 10+ year old Polar Accurex Plus with a new battery and strap. Lucky that the midwest service center is right here in Richardson. They did the R&R while I waited, checked water tightness, and verified it received the coded signal from my new strap.
I've done three runs with it and it works just like it did the day I did the Ironman.
