reminds me of the documentary:

Running the Sahara

These three runners ran across the Sahara Desert in 111 days -- 4300 miles which equals approximately 162 marathons in that period of time. Towards the end of the journey they were running more than 100 kilometers in a day.

It's a good documentary if you get a chance to see it.

Ultra runners are a rare breed. I know a guy here in Dallas who would do the Huntsville 50 miler and come back and do the White Rock Marathon the next morning.

Whooo, and he wasn't walking them; a 2:56 best and 4 hour average means he was actually running all of them, not just trotting. I've run a few in the 3:15 to 3:20 range, and I always had some problem afterwards to recuperate from. Good on him to do it, but who was feeding him during the period. Couldn't really have a job while doing it.
