Speeders GRRRR!!! - 02-05-2011, 07:28 PM

Last night a young man for whatever reason decided that the dragstrip wasn't the only place to peel out and drive fast. He started out on our street burning rubber in first and second, lost control, ran over one neighbors mailbox, through our yard, a glancing blow drove our Honda pilot 3 feet forward, then he t-boned my pickup, knocking it about 8 feet into my other neighbors fence, pretty well totaling the pickup. Also this morning I found that a piece if my neighbors mailbox post had flown across both yards, through tree branches and tore into my motorcycle cover knocking my helmet off the seat and scratching the windshield. Grrrr!
It's one thing to take a chance driving out there on icy roads but you'd think your driveway would be a safe place.
Ok, now maybe I can rest tonight.

Hit and run? or do the police have him?

Geez Steve, I'm sorry to hear that! A-holes like that definitely give me numerous homicidal desires! (Except that would be too good for them)

Was there anything left of him to turn over to the police?

No, it wasn't a hit and run, his car was undrivable, his passenger tried walking away but a neighbor stopped him. Don't know if he was under influence of something. The police took the driver in for giving a false statement after a witness told what he saw.

This is another reason I like my surveillance cameras; if even part of some bozo's stupidity makes its way to YouTube, it's that much more public humiliation for him

I have two angles on the driveway and one each on the front and back yards, and I'm seriously considering upgrading to an 8 or 16 channel DVR with better network capability (the current one is only remote-accessible from MSIE) so I can get a few more angles going. Looks like an 8 channel DVR with 8 cameras and smartphone access is now available for the $429 we paid for our 4 camera setup 2 years ago.

I'd really like to add one watching the mailbox, as I'm getting suspicious - seems that we never have any mail on days that we don't get around to checking it until after 6PM, but days when one of us checks at lunchtime, there's at least some junk mail.

The "open talk" is usually 'bout anything but photography and why I check it once in a while...kind of fun to see what's going on besides photography...

Jim and Leon,
Dan is not complaining about the topic but wants pics of the scene.

nature?!? I want to see some carnage!!! Well, I suppose there is some carnage in the nature section, but as beautifully as this scene was described, just wish we had some images to see.

My question, based on the thread title, is was he actually speeding, or just guilty of causing general mayhem? You can cause a lot of damage on a residential street and still observe the speed limit.

Yeah, that sucks but I wouldn't call it speeding. Moron behind the wheel is more like it.
