Stupid Stupid Stupid..... - 02-19-2011, 04:04 PM

OK, first off, I'm not much of a shopper. I can do without the masses of people and the all the cars and traffic. I typically shop on Tuesdays or Wednesdays.... Not sure how I got talked into shopping on a Saturday, at a factory outlet mall that was offering 20% off because of the holiday weekend. Pure insanity..... I took an hour long scalding hot shower when I got home and I still feel dirty.....

oh yeah, here's the kicker... I wanted to buy a new pair of sunglasses because I lost my previous pair. So, $230.00 later... Anyway, I get home, unpack the car, and guess what I find, my sunglasses.... ARGH!!!!!!!!

An outlet mall and still spent $230 on shades? What are they normally?

Outlet mall != lower prices. One still must shop and compare prices.

Ok, I find this odd coming from a woman and it's in regards to shopping.

I would return those $230 glasses. At least that's what us women would do.

Given the OP gave us the info of 230 was the sale price and they were 20% off, we can solve for x.

230 + (.2x) = x
simplifying
230 + (0.2x) + -1x = x + -1x
230 + -0.8x = x + -1x
230 + -0.8x = 0
230 + -230 + -0.8x = 0 + -230
-0.8x = -230
x = 287.5

So a whopping savings of $57.50

Unless that was a rhetorical question

I hate shopping and talking on the phone, both seem a waste of time and money. If you look at my cc charges it is to Costco and Home Depot, Lowes and B&H.

I do 99.9% of my shopping online except for food....I hate malls or any place with more than 20 humans in it. I do my food shopping at 9:00 in morning on Mondays and may see 3 or 4 people other than the help. It's one of the perks of being retired.

I took my legally blind neighbor to the bigger mall in the neighboring town, since she can't drive anymore, a week or two ago, I think on a Saturday, and I had honestly forgotten why I didn't go to the mall anymore, so I assumed the visit would be fun. It was not fun at all, I ended up being annoyed the whole time. I had to stand there and wait while she tried on clothes for her new job, we basically went around the entire mall once, went back to the first store, bought the clothes she had on, went almost all the way back down the mall to buy some lingerie she just felt like buying, then make our way back down and out. Once we got to the car traffic wasn't to bad, until we went to leave the mall parking area back onto a city street, that was terrible.

Unless a Lane Bryant or a Torrid is in a mall, I don't want to go back. Neither of which were in that mall.

Oh, I guess the one good thing was finding this pair of black glitter converse, that I'm totally going to buy soon. They are pretty awesome.

Edit: Oh and I'm only a 25 year old woman. I would think 25 would still be a mall-loving age. Maybe it's my anxiety.

Spent too much time at Ikea and other furniture stores this weekend. Not too bad (save for the Ikea trips...plural). The result was worth it: our library is almost done. Maybe one more weekend of furniture shopping and it'll be finished.

I love shopping but not at the mall. Shopping is more fun in thrift stores and junky antique stores or farmers markets. In places like that it's more like treasure hunting.

I'm still trying to figure out the stupid part.....shopping at an outlet mall on a Saturday or spending $230 for sunglasses. :)

Don't feel bad about the sunglasses. I've just replaced the replacement Rx sunglasses I bought earlier in the year. Went years and years without losing a pair and lost 2 pairs in less than 10 months. We'll just say that $230 sounds pretty reasonable to me these days.

As far as the outlet mall on a weekend.....I recently noted that if any of my friends ever heard the words "I'll just pop out to Ikea" come out of my mouth on a weekend, they had permission to come right over and slap some sense back into me.
