Here is a list of things I learned today, most of which are related to photography. Most of you will probably know this, but if there is another rookie out there that this will help out, that would be great. For the rest of you, perhaps you can get a kick out of my learning curve.
#1 - Having Good Gear does not make you a good photographer. You need to think one. Trying to take a picture of the moon with your new lens on a great tripod will only frustrate you if you forget to check your metering mode! (Side note : If anyone needs a picture of a black background with a giant blurry orb please PM me. I will give you a great deal with unlimited reprint rights)
#2 - Just because your lens can go down to 2.8, does not mean you
always should.
#3 - For some reason, it seemed logical to me that Spot Metering should be used for all pictures. After all, its more "accurate" right? Wrong. Anyone want to guess how my pictures of the Big Black Gorilla turned out on a sunny day?
#4 - There is a reason for the Price difference between basic SD and "overpriced" SD cards
#5 - It is possible to get a sunburn in February.
#6 - If you have less hair on top than you used. You should remove your sunglasses from the top of your head, while earning said Sunburn. Otherwise you will have to walk around like a jackwagon for three days till the burn disappears and matches the unburned portion of your scalp. I assume that this will serve as a reminder of stupidity, and prevent a repeat of items 1-5.
I did manage to get some decent pictures today
