Just got back from Vegas yesterday - and lemme tell ya, t'was quite an interesting trip.
We landed last Tuesday and within an hour of being on the ground the fun began. When we got to the hotel we got out of our cab and Brit though I had her camera bag, and I thought she had her camera bag, and as it turns out, the cab driver had the camera bag. Long story short, $6K worth of equipment took a scenic tour of Las Vegas that day!! Can we spell S-T-R-E-S-S! Thankfully the cab driver was honest and turned it in and we got it back at about 3pm that afternoon. I had hotel security pull surveillance tapes, and we called the cab company ever half hour, so that probably helped in the recovery.
Wed, Thurs, and Fri, were FULL of After Dark activities. We spent most of our days in an intensive business class, learning about cost of sale percentages, pricing strategies, and business plans. I was amazed to learn all the information that I did. PPA has some stunning studies, the last of which I think was completed in 2008. Its that one about the retail vs home studio businesses. WOW! Eye opening stuff. We were surprised to find out that our actual pricing technique that we currently use is on par with PPA's suggested numbers, there were just a few things that we need to tweak. Overall, we learned a lot of good information that will help us manage our studio better, and I'm looking forward to getting started right away.
Saturday we spent the day actually walking around Vegas, and seeing the strip. I have to say.... I DONT like the strip. Entirely too much walking! We ended up seeing Frank Marino's 'Divas' show at the Imperial Palace. And Sunday we spent most of the morning sleeping, and then went out to Fremont street that afternoon. I have to say though, I much preferred Fremont street over the strip.
It was overall a great trip though. We ate dinner with Jordan Chan on Tuesday night, and spent a lot of time talking to mentors outside of classes. I dont recommend 7 days in Vegas though. Its definitely a 'weekend' trip kind of place.
