Wish me luck.. - 02-23-2011, 02:00 PM

I'm taking my 40d apart tonight to fix the shutter button. I've had the problem it seems quite a few others have seen with their x0d cameras where the shutter button just doesn't work well. Like having to press harder then normal for it to fire. I've done the twist the button while pressing on it. Slipped paper under the button to try and clean. When I use my shutter release it's fine.

Found a good video online on how to take it apart. Got me some clean cotton swaps and 99.9% iso alcohol to clean the 3 metal peices that are in the switch.

This should be fun. As longs as I dont loose any of those tiny screws.

It's out of warranty. Repair is like $200-$250.. So to me it's not worth sending in for a repair. heh. If I can take a car motor apart to replace parts, surely I can do the same with a camera.. :D

I've not had that problem with my 40d, but I'm anxious to see how easy it was to fix.

I looked at trying to spray, but all I can do with it is spray around the shutter button. The metal contacts that need to be cleaned are well hidden.

Don't spray it on - just wipe it

I thought you were mentioning a way to do this w/o taking everything apart.

Once you get it apart a great contact cleaner that won't leave residue is a pencil eraser. You probably already know that if you are attempting this endeaver but just in case.

Man.. Canon sure like blue thread locker. I ended up stopping and putting everything back. Few screws I just couldn't break loose.
