I'm going to hold out until at least Lion.

Can't wait to upgrade for the Thunderbolt, though.

I'll be buying a family pack for Lion anyway and I don't think Apple will update the MacBook Pro line again before they ship the new OS.

And speaking of Lion, did you see the preview is out to developers with some new features announced:

Apple - Mac OS X Lion

I didn't realize Lion was so close. Usually I would buy a refurb of the old computer, but I think Thunderbolt will be worth the upgrade. Especially as FW800 has been discontinued everywhere.

We really don't need a new computer. My June 09 MBP (unibody, 15" 2.53 dual core 2) is still running fine and we never use my original issue MBP (1.87ghz intel)

I hear ya. In no way do I need a new laptop. Perhaps I could use a new battery as the original will only charge to 4/5 full power (4100maH), but other than that, my machine is in excellent condition and runs fine. I upgraded it to 4GB of RAM and a 320GB 7200RPM HDD along the way so even with the 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo, it's not a bad performer.

I just checked my purchase receipt - July 6, 2007. Approaching 4 years is not bad at all for a notebook if you ask me.

If y'all arent looking to upgrade to a new machine, I had priced out memory at crucial.com for my 13" MBP for 8gb (2x4gb) pack, it's $100, just a year ago, they were $400.

I'm actually on my third battery on my 2006 original release MBP.

I upgraded the RAM in my 2009 MBP to 8GIG from 2GIG along with updating the OS to 64 bit and it made such an incredible difference.

Next up to upgrade the RAM in the iMac. Its a quad-core 2.66 with 4 gig ram. Gonna bust that puppy up to 16 GIG when the new Final Cut Pro comes out.

MacCreate ran an article this morning noting that the MBP's are now more powerful than the iMac's.

I want one
The Thunderbolt port (this is the first time I've heard of it, and I'm not sure how well/widely it's supported yet) sounds great, as does the hi-res screen and HD iSight.
This was a nice update. It's about time they did more than just bump processing speed.

Though it has been speculated for a while, Intel unveiled it yesterday.

I'm thinking of getting one, but really only want the 13". I don't know much about the Intel video card though. Are they ok?

The MBP's come with dual video cards - the Intel integrated runs most everything until you really need the dedicated video - it automatically switches to it - seamlessly. I have the Spring 2010 MBP with the nVidia chip in it. PC CS5 (and a couple of games I've played) run just fine.

The intent is that the Intel integrated video uses less power than the AMD/ATi chip when you're running on battery power.
