New craigslist scam to watch out for - 02-26-2011, 12:52 PM

A seller advertises an item at a slightly below average price. You contact him/her and receive an email saying you have to register with craigslist. Once registered you have to send that person the registration information. Your username, password, and your phone number so he/she can verify you. They then use your information to post bogus ads that you the prospective buyer must send Western Union Money Orders for payment...

People that do these things don't scare me nearly as much as those who need warnings to avoid them.

At the last DFW camera show a dealer had fallen for the Leica M9 scam that comes up on craigslist from time to time.

Several times while listing items for sale on craigslist I would get inquiries wanting me to ship but if they cannot meet me in person I don't respond.

The best way to have a good experience is a face to face..
