Coffee... Grinders this time - 02-27-2011, 11:07 AM

Howdy everyone! We just had a great thread on coffee makers - and I asked in that thread to expand it to grinders but the question got a bit lost in all of the coffee maker advice.

I'm looking for a new coffee grinder and I know that I'm interested in a conical burr grinder. Anyone have any information about what ones are best?

I guess coffee grinders aren't as sexy as the brewing machines... no advice?

I haven't found one that does what I want at a price that I'm willing to pay... so I could not recommend one. At least, not for anything other than regular coffee - - certainly not for espresso... that was one of the reasons I decided to get the Nespresso machine - - to avoid the issues of grinding.

Capresso Cool Grind Coffee Grinder - Black | 501.01 | DTYdirect.com
I use an old one similar to this. It grinds up flaxseed to poweder as well as sesime seeds to make and ingredient for hummus. It can grind up coffee beans to about any texture you want depending on length of time you press the button. Not expensive to buy.

Not sure what price range you're looking for, but I have coupled the Capresso Infinity 565 Conical Burr Grinder with a Delonghi EC155 and have had results I am very pleased with for espresso.

I see that you're in Leander and if you are not familiar with Anderson's Coffee I'd highly recommend you check them out. Their Viennese, Mocha Java, and Italian Espresso blends are all great.

Well, I'm wanting a conical burr grinder. Sub $100 as a price range probably.

I'm not familiar with them. But I work downtown (next to Whole Foods) so I can do just about anywhere north of the river.

This would be very easy for me get to. On 38th between Lamar and MoPac...

Yeah, definitely check them out when you get a chance. I'm pretty sure they sell the grinder I posted a link to also.

Amazon.com: Breville BCG800XL Smart Grinder: Kitchen & Dining

That's the one i have, and i love it. Every kind of grind you could want, very adjustable. Out of your given price range, however.

I stopped by Anderson Coffee yesterday and walked out with the 565 Infinity grinder and the Aero Press. It sure does seem a bit odd that I spent 3x more on the grinder than the maker, but the cup I had this morning was the best cup I have had in a long time.
