American Idol....

Tori and I watch it together....it's wonderful....well...Tori is playing AAU basketball and had practice...so Sarah and I had dinner and desert and she played in the living room with me while we watched it....

There's this guy singing....great singing voice....gorgeous hair....he's performing his song on the t.v...

Sarah says: Mommy....boys can wear earrings.
Mommy: Yes Sarah...boys can wear earrings.
Sarah (pointing at the t.v.): What's her name?
Mommy: His name is Brett
Sarah: He's not a boy!
Mommy: Yes Sarah...he's a boy.
Sarah: He doesn't look like a boy.
Mommy: Ummm....yeah....boys can have long curly hair too.
Sarah: Oh....

A few minutes later they do the quick interview with him...

Sarah: Mommy....he doesn't SOUND like a boy...
Mommy: Yeah....boys can have soft voices sometimes....

She pauses to consider this for a minute then says:Only girls have vagina's though....
Me: (trying hard not to laugh) Yes...only girls have vagina's.
Sarah: What do boys have again?
Me: Boys have a penis.
Sarah: Does he (points to the t.v.) have a penis?
Me: yes Sarah...he's a boy....he has a penis.

I thought I watched it for the musical entertainment....I didn't realize it was going to be confusing/educating my 3.5 year old...



On another note about AI though....holy cow Jacob Lusk could sing...

Lol.... Yeah...she was definitely confused... One of my friends let her son get his ears pierced which threw her for a loop...it's so hard being three.. ;-)

"My dad's a gynecologist. He looks at vaginas all day long."

I know when my girls learned the 'proper' names for body parts, they came up in conversation all the time. Now that they are 9 and 12, they blush and giggle if they hear them on TV. Relish this time because they grow up so quickly...

I decided when I was pregnant with Tori that 'baby' words or made up words weren't going to be used... Its hard enough for kids to learn proper English... Why handicap them??

Funny story along the same lines...My friend Icee took care of the girls when Brad and I went to After Dark in N.O.

One afternoon she picked Sarah up from her daycare - the manager asked to speak with Icee before she left with Sarah.

Sarah had told her (after she went to the bathroom) that 'her vagina hurt'.

The teacher in her class freaked...the manager was concerned that a three year old was using the word 'vagina'.

Icee told them that she used the correct word for that part of her body... What was the problem?

They were just freaking out over a word...
