Baton Rouge...... - 03-02-2011, 11:24 AM

Well, work has given me a job in Baton Rouge, LA on short notice. I fly out Sunday March 6th. Considering bringing my camera. Was wondering if anyone knew of some places I should check out. Maybe I will get some free time and rind something worth shooting. Maybe I won't screw it up too.

I will mainly only have free time at night. Not bringing a tripod. Only fast lens i have is a Sigma 50 1.4.

I sure you can get some interesting shots downtown at night. Esp of the bridge and capital.

Sit on the levee and shoot freighters and push boats. Should be some float plane moorings in the area or across the river. River Road towards NOLA. There is a book Ghosts along the Mississippi telling of well and derelict antebellum homes. A plus you are there during Mardis Gras season -- do not look prosperous.

Go eat at Chimes for sure. Or if you're just rolling in it, and wanting to experience some fine dinning, Jubans is terrific.

LSU's campus is beautiful. I could spend all day there (and have) taking pictures. As John mentioned above, the Capital is also a cool location. Nottoway Plantation is gorgeous.

I'm getting anxious (in a negative way) just thinking about all of those people. I dot do well in mass' like that. I take medicine for it. So I ilk probably leave the camera at home this trip and work on some photos vie taken, or my website (personal not professional). Food suggestions I might check out if they aren't crazy packed. Work pays for all of my meals. When we spend a week in New Orleans we ate at some great places. No seafood for me, but I enjoyed every place. The even took me to bourbon st so I could see it on a week night. I wouldn't make it on a weekend lol.

I will enjoy Baton Rouge More than I did Lafayette, TN last month

Take your camera. The crowds will be on the parade routes. A block away the place will be deserted.
If you are there long enough for a nice Sat. or Sunday drive, get on the River Road and go south OR go north to St. Francisville. Audubon's home is in St. Francisville. The area will be alive with flowers.
