This is an obvious attention getting move. If the legislation passes, and I doubt it will, the Federal Government will take Texas to court and it will end up costing us a zillion dollars. Taxpayers have to pay both sides and lose no matter what.
Publicity stunts should be restricted to Charlie Sheen , etc.
All well and good for the normal traveller, but 1 have 2 knee replacements. I alway trip the magnetometer so I always land up being scanned and patted down (more personal patting now a days) and often have all my carry on searched. It seems that once the buzzer goes off all your rights to privacy vanish. And yes I do tell them about my knees and yes I do have a signed medical card saying I do have replacements, all this means nothing to TSA.
I travel a fair bit so in the past this meant that I would need to add an extra 30 min of totally unproductive time, to my plans just to allow for this. Add to this the need to explain to others if you happen to be travelling with business colleagues. Let me say that it is not only a pain, an embarrassment and a waste of time. Too me, TSA aside, full body scanners are a blessing.
So before you go off yelling freedom think about the problem (silly TSA regulations) and not the bandage (tools used) and think about those who may not be as fortunate as you. By getting body scanners banned you will not affect the base regulations, which could well be excessive.
I don't like the way body scanners were selected, the vendor selected or the politics surrounding them but those are all different discussions. For those of us that are not only inconvenienced by the old system but truly put into embarrassing situations I applaud a more efficient and fair system.

Interesting, but futile. Seems to me we fought a war a while back to figure out if federal law trumped state law or not... for better or worse, the feds won that.
A blog dedicated to upholding the 10th amendment isn't the best source of an unbiased opinion on this.... case in point:
Wrong. The Constitution specifically gives powers to the federal government to regulate interstate commerce... which is what most travel through airports is. The TSA was created to help regulate that. The 10th Amendment doesn't apply because it was something that was specifically granted to the federal government, therefore it is not reserved for the state. The TSA will likely challenge such a law, but the Texas legislature stands on solid ground. Local governments control airports and no enumerated power in the Constitution gives the federal government the authority to regulate them. Under the Tenth Amendment, airport operation falls under state jurisdiction.
I agree, but someone who has a physical handicap should be treated as fairly as anyone else. Perhaps I didn't state the "fair" position properly, if I mislead you I apologize. I spend a lot of time in airplanes I want a safe system as well, am I willing to accept that extra process be required to accomplish that? Of course I am, am I willing to be put through extra scrutiny because I have a metal implant NO! Especially when alternative scanning systems are available.
Just drop some viagra and pop a chubby while they are searching you, that will freak em out....
Its a dog eat dog world and I'm wearing milkbone underware...
It would be nice if they sent someone through the new alternative scanning systems if they tripped off something (like the metal scanners in your case). Other than those cases I really get tired of our safety on an aircraft having nothing more to do than with the random numbers game of who will get scanned and who wont.
