PayPal Verification - 03-07-2011, 12:34 PM

I am a consumer. I buy on the internet occasionally using PayPal and I use a credit card then for the consumer protections.

I may end up selling some gear in the future. This is the only reason I see I may want to be verified under PayPal. I just do not like giving my account info up or giving anyone else access to my bank accounts.

What are the advantages to going through their verification process?

Ever write a check, or use a debit card?

Just my .02 ... I setup a separate checking account with my bank which I use exclusively for paypal.

I keep the balance low just in case, that way should something happen, its not linked to my other accounts where the "real" money is.

Same for mine, the PayPal account has only the amount I want to spend... nothing more.

Thanks. Yes, Howard, I've written a few checks in my day, next to none now with internet bill pay, but as a banker, I've seen accounts cleaned out and debits run "in error" and repeatedly. To err is human, to really screw up takes a computer.

There is no benefit from becoming verified. It's actually quite an annoyance since Paypal will default to your bank account every time and you have to reselect the payment method to use a credit card. If you pay through your bank, you lose the protection the credit card provides.

+1 on the seperate bank account. My bank account is free, as long as I make an automatic credit to the account once a month. bill pay allows me to do just that from the "main" account, and I can move the money back at will.
