That depends on what you are doing in Hawaii... Out of my 6, I would bring all 6 in my backpack but pack away my 7 million dollar bag for my three favorites:

SUPER WIDE 10-22mm <--- Best lens Ive EVER owned for outdoor wide shots.

Standard/Telephoto 28-75

Telephoto 70-200

More than likely the 70-200 will never get used and I end up with the 28-75 on camera with the 10-22 in the wifey purse in a felt bag, or in my pocket.

I always bring everything as it packs up nicely in my lowepro backback along with two flashes and my laptop plus it will fit under the seat on the plane. IF I HAD TOO, I would just bring the three lenses in the 7 million dollar bag and probably only use the 28-75. A flash fits nicely in the bag also along with a set of batteries and a few flash cards too.

You being a Nikon shooter, I dont know what your lens line up is for focal lengths.

*EDIT*
By the way, I would also pack my Canon G10 as it fits in my pocket, shoots RAW, and is basically a DSLR in a P&S body, of course minus the nice large sensor. Sometimes you just dont want to draw attention to yourself with a big camera.

My camera, a backup camera, 70-200mm 2.8, 11-22 4.8, 28-105, and for good measure I take the 400mm and 28mm. This is the same gear I have used for the last 7 of 8 trips. And will be in my bag in two weeks as we spend a week on Maui and a week on Kauai.

On our last trip, I probably used my wide angle (16-35) and my macro (100) the most. Some really lush flowers that needed the macro, but my scenics were primarily wide angle with a few telephoto's thrown in (200mm).

Been there twice. Take a standard zoom like a 24-70, and a telephoto zoom like the 70-200. On the last trip I did take my 105mm Micro but it ended up staying the bag. Take a flash just in case. Lots and lots of memory cards. They are still lighter than a laptop.
