Time for me to get a new phone! - 03-16-2011, 10:29 AM

Had an iphone 3G before. It found it's way to a bucket of water so it's been out of commission for some time. Instead of canceling my contract, I've opted to hold on to it until it expires, which is next month. I'm terminating my AT&T contract.

Anyone have any reccomendations for a smartphone?

Virgin Mobile has a great pre-paid plan that includes unlimited email, data, text, and web. I paired it with an LG Optimius V smartphone ($129.99). Rates are $25/300minutes, $40/1200 minutes, and $60/unlimited minutes. Transferred my existing number over the phone in less than 15 minutes.

I swore off Virgin.
Long story short. My phone would not ring. They confirmed this was a flaw with that model, but I could fix it by purchasing a different ringtone from the default. They offered to replace my phone, but could only do so with the same (defective) model. replacing it with even a less expensive model was not allowed without a phone "upgrade" (???) charge. At many levels, they were clueless, unresponsive and uncaring. Of course YMMV. Good luck.

HTC Incredible
HTC Evo (or Evo shift if you want the full keyboard)

I would stay away from Samsung, I have the Captivate right now ("Galaxy S"), it is a cool phone and runs fast but if you want a "phone" as in something you can talk on... it is not that good. Poor speaker and mic, known issue and does not seem that there is any plans to fix. If you stay with ATT they have nice places that will swap them out for free while under warranty (other carriers might as well, I just know ATT does because I have done it 3 times now). Cool phone and up until a month ago I really liked and recommended it...

Have not dropped a single call since moving to Verizon from T-Mobile. Unlimited talk, text & web for 2 lines with phone insurance about $130. The unlimited talk is actually 700 shared minutes with unlimited cell-to-cell calling on any network. Since I hardly ever call a land line anymore, it's unlimited talk for me.

Got Droid X phones for both of us. Android works just fine. Lot's of photo apps.

I've been eying the Droid X since it's release. Verizon has a pretty good list of nice phones as well.

EVO 4G. Compare Sprint's data plans and they look pretty good, and are still unlimited.

Droid X is nice. Coworker has one. On Verizon I'd go with one of the new 4G HTC phones though. 4G is waaaay faster than 3G.

I'm running the all data family plan on Sprint with 5 phones and I'm using the EVO and love it. My wife has the Samsung Epic 4g and I guess she likes it since she doesn't complain. Check out their plans and coverage in your area and see what's available.

I've been eyeing those new Windows 7 phones. I'll admit, I'm still scarred from the Winmobile 6.5 days.

As much as I hate at&t, I doubt I'll leave it anytime soon. Vz would be the only other cell company I'd use.

I'd probably pick up whatever super-cheap phone you can get by with until the new phones are announced next week. Plus, a new iPhone will probably come out in June.
