It did not hit me that way. It displayed what they are raising funds for. Actually thought it was a nice drawing.

I know that is a famous Japanese painting, which is why it was probably used.

I'm reaching here but I believe it is an ancient depiction of the 'Divine Wind' saved Japan from invaders.
Is it an appropriate image for a relief concert - got us talking about it.

I think it depicts the cause, with Mt. Fuji standing tall in the background sayingthey will survive. I see no problems with it.

Very famous painting, shows to me that all things can be overcome. Not in bad taste at all in my opinion.

One must also keep in mind that what we 'Americans' consider to be in poor taste other cultures consider very appropriate.

From a graphic designer's standpoint... i just don't think it was the best choice of imagery. Not from an offensive point of view, but i just think that for a concert there was probably a better image to find that would have been more appropriate for the event they are advertising. I like that it's a famous japanese painting. I just think a japanese painting that was more related to the performing arts would have been a better choice and still would have made the link to japan and their culture.

Agree it is okay if you know the source of the artwork. At first glance it would seem iffy. Other fundraisers have been using the same image.

It's actually a woodblock print from the 1800's.

I have no problem with that image. I think somebody was wide awake when they used the phrase "disasters in Japan" instead of listing everything that happened.

Poor taste? Probably not.. poor choice, maybe. I would have gone with cherry blossoms or a serene picture of Mount Fuji... something quiet and respectful like the Japanese people themselves as they work through this crisis. This is too kinetic of an image for a disaster relief concert. I think it needed to be something solemn in a "we will persevere" kind of way.
