The Butcher Shop in Longview has a pretty good CFS and another place there called Jucy's is not far behind. Years ago there was a place in Texarkana called The Cutlet House that served the best CFS I have ever eaten in a restaurant and by far the best gravy but that placed burned back in the 70s.

Thanks for the heads up on this one. We spend many weekends in Centerpoint just sitting in the river and relaxing all day at my in-laws property. Drive right through there so I'll have to let the folks know we are stopping for lunch there one day.

Chef Pointe Cafe up in Watauga (be sure to save room for the most amazing bread pudding you will ever eat in your life)

Also, Babe's is delicious!

There was a small place I went to a couple of times in San Saba that had great CFS. I think it was called "Blue Moon" or something like that.

Just had one today that was way too expensive to be considered among the top...

Home Cafe in Lubbock.

Only open for lunch, and it is always full from 11:45 til 1:15.
CFS is only served on Fridays.

Lots of heavy cracked pepper in the breading as well as the gravy.

Nevermind -- I'll take care of it myself!

Booooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
JW's had enough pepper in the breading, gravy & onion rings to know it was there. Not so much that it was overpowering. The way I like it.
I place pepper in the same category with garlic: "You should be aware of it's presence yet not taste it."

I was terribly disappointed with the service at the smokestack, but it's been a long time. Maybe they figured out how to treat people.

I will give another vote Mary's in Strawn. Anytime I am out that way I do my best to try to stop in and get a CFS. Best I have ever had by fare.

Maybe it was just a one time situation, I used to drop by there every chance I had when I had a deer lease out near Cross Plains. And the service was always great.
