Vacation in Beaumont. - 03-23-2011, 08:41 PM

I really forgot how much I hate this town. But at least the weather is nice. Seems like every time I come visit, it's hot and humid. Maybe tomorrow I'll wander around. I have not been to the downtown area in quite a few years and Friday I'm heading out to Shangri La in Orange.

I almost spewed water thru my nose when I saw that title.

I lived in Beaumont for three years back in the late 1990s. Made a lot of great friends, but waking up a lot of mornings with green film covering my car and the smell of petro-chemical plants got to me.

I guess you don't "love the smell of napalm in the morning"?

Yeah, I got family and friends here. Lived here up till 1997 then went to Austin. Though at least this year, my trip falls during the Fair.

I was raised in Nederland, and moved my wife/kids to DFW almost 11 years ago. We make 2-3 trips down there each year to visit family. We sure don't miss the humidity, mosquitoes, smell, etc. The kids always announce when we roll into Beaumont with an "Eewww, there's that smell".

My first thoughts as well. Those two words just don't seem to fit together.

We moved to Tx when I about 10 (around '78) and we first moved to Port Arthur. I was the token white kid in each class. We later moved to Nederland.

Our very own resident MFA Lady, Valerie, got her advanced degree in Beaumont. It's not all bad.
US Highway 287 starts in Beaumont and goes all the way to Canada. Good reason to go to Beaumont? And leave at 70mph?

Heh, I might goto PA, unsure. I'm still trying to see if I can get a friend to get his boat ready and take me out into the marsh before I head back home.

I was in Bmt this past weekend. I was able to work in a few Senior shoots in the down town area. The riverfront park behind the civic center is closed, so we just walked around the down town area.
