Why Me? - 03-28-2011, 10:19 AM

Well this Friday I did a shoot for a School in Dallas. Vista Academy..

I did school pictures.. 250 students total..but Only about 100 actually took photos.

I live in Fort Worth School is in Pleasant Grove.

I had to make sure i had everything.. Lights Background.. Props..etc..

So why did I forget my camera at home..?

Yeah i couldnt belive it.

Luckyly called in a favor and had soemone meet me with it half way..so i was delayed by an hour..

Overall the school was cool about it and it all went well..

But i felt like an idiot..

It happens.

Helps to make a checklist before hand of the different things you want to take. I try to pack everything the night before and go through my checklist. I have different ones for different shoots.

Yeah, it happens. I did that once, luckily remembered before I got to the end of the block but still felt like an idiot.

Mariano! You are SO brave to admit such a mistake and I am appreciative of the opportunity to not make the same mistake. I'll probably forget something else....but it won't be my camera!

Thanks for a hard lesson, great insight and again for sharing!!

It's all well and good to make a list and check twice...only I'm the sort that loses the list!

+1 to what Linda said.

I can't tell you the number of times I've pulled over on the side of the road just to check "one more time" due to pure paranoia...

I've yet to forget my camera but I forgotten the next important thing...memory cards. Yeah, it's a crappy feeling. But hey, it happens to everyone.

I once (twice) had to drive around the metroplex shooting fences. The first time I did it without a card in the camera :(

I hate to partake too much in schadenfreude, but this is one of those instances I can't pass up.

That makes for a great story.

See, I make lists for lots of different things, but the problem is I forget to put stuff on the list, lose the list, or think I remember everything and just don't look at the list. Happens every time!

A major forgot is the sad 1987 death of the jump photographer. He forgot to put on his parachute before jumping. It is said he did the shoot but the film was destroyed on impact. His name was Ivan McGuire(sp)

I am starting to live by check-lists.

I wouldn't have been brave enough to admit this....but since you started. This is the start of a great thread....can we start it??? Will you rename the thread??? What's the dumbest thing you did on a shoot??? Me? Did 1/2 the shoot before I realized I didn't have the blankety blank memory card in the camera!!! Thank goodness that was in the very beginning!!
