good morning everyone!!

i was google-ing "texas bluebonnet photography" and stumbled upon this website. although i am a HUGE arts/photography/nature enthusiast, it's my dad who does all the picture taking in our family. he's been under a lot of stress lately, to the point to where it's severely affecting his health. so, his best remedy/medication is being outdoors taking copious amounts of pictures. (i'm sure you guys would all agree). he actually lives in south texas - rio grande valley - and was wanting to take my mom on a road trip to travel through central texas, in hopes of catching some views of our bluebonnets and other wild flowers. he plans to drive up from the valley, as far as dallas, from monday through friday of this upcoming week. so, he asked me to map out a few places for him to hit up.

he's looking for vast fields (or as much as he can get) of flowers, especially in locations where there are historic buildings/landscapes/animals/etc. from the sounds of it, i suspect his "ideal" view would be a grand field of texas wildflowers with like longhorns/cows grazing and cowboys in the background. hahaha. i think you guys get my drift.

i've done some other research online this week and found that the hill country is a little bare this year. has this changed since the end of march? i know ennis holds the state bluebonnet fair. has anyone gone through the trails in ennis this year? or any year?? are they worth driving 9 hours for? i've also come across kingsland and sugar ridge rold (near bristol) online...

anyways... i was wondering if anyone knew of places like this spanning from brownsville to dallas. any and all comments are welcome!!!

thanks so much!

The Bluebonnets are going to be extremely thin this year because of the overly dry weather.
The normal places around Brenham are extremely limited right now.
On Wed, I had to drive to Austin for a meeting, we saw more bluebonnets west of Giddings toware Austin than we did from Hempstead out past Brenham.

The only way I know for sure to find some, is to have friends with a ranch, that over-seeded with them and kept them watered... (attached).
Yes, I know the color is way off... it was shot on the fly with a Canon SX20 IS, whose settings were messed up.

Good Luck!

Bluebonnets seem pretty scarce around the Tyler area also. I've been looking around and not seen but a few scattered patches that were not large enough to do anything but a closeup. There is a small field of them across the lake from Chandler, but I was there Saturday and they are thin and not filled in yet. Definitely looking to be a bad year. :(
