Renae, If I lived in the Houston area I would have you put me on retainer. Sounds like I could retire on keeping your computers running.

Exactly. No matter how much attention I pay to those little details, a little something always slips by me. However, I'm getting better with the more I shoot.

That's because sometimes its hard to catch things when you're behind the camera... I find that I'm more observant when I'm assisting other photographers.. always stopping things to make an adjustment on the model... the same stuff I sometimes miss when I'm the shooter.

I think this is the real point.. I've taught myself to be more aware of things around the face because I did headshots for so long... stray hairs, makeup out of place, eyelashes wrong... but I still miss crooked jewelry around wrists or those damn hair bands and other "candy"

You guys really struggle with the posing, the clothing and the details of the shoots. Hairs in the face, Making sure all the jewelry is straight, the hair bands are off the wrists, etc. Checking to see if the clothing is appropriate...

I fully understand that the majority of men don't normally see these things and probably don't really want to care about them!!!
Oh, my, Renae, how I must count to 10 before I respond. I'm glad you started with the first line, and mentioned this stems from something you have seen here, and not with men photographers in general, as your comment fails on that scale.

I don't think what you are seeing has anything to do with men or women. I think it lies more in the arena of professional competency. I've seen as many female photographers with no idea what they are looking at, as men.

The ability to pose isn't gender specific, nor is looking for details, etc. Either the photographer is accomplished in this, or (s)he is not.

I better stop before you come looking for me. I'm too pretty to get busted up.

Oh I've definitely overlooked things like a tag showing on a scarf, or a crooked ring on a finger. Then again, so did everyone else in the room. It happens.

That said, posing is absolutely my weakest area. I know what I want to see, and if I were writing a paper describing what I want to see I could easily do so, yet verbalizing that when there's a camera in my hand seems somehow impossible. At some point an understanding and rhythm either develops between me and the subject, or it doesn't.
