photo tips for men shooters - 04-03-2011, 09:27 PM

Ok....I have looked at a couple threads tonight and I really feel sorry for you guys...and to be honest us women. Now I admit I am usually pretty sarcastic, but this one is not...so bear with me. And this is pretty sexist and definitely aimed at a majority, so if you don't fall in the majority, carry on and ignore the thread.

You guys really struggle with the posing, the clothing and the details of the shoots. Hairs in the face, Making sure all the jewelry is straight, the hair bands are off the wrists, etc. Checking to see if the clothing is appropriate.

I fully understand that the majority of men don't normally see these things and probably don't really want to care about them!!!

I have a couple options...you can either learn, which really isn't that hard, or you really can teach someone, anyone, your wife, your teenage daughter, etc and teach them what to look for and take them with you. If you don't know what to teach them, ask me or someone else to go over photos and give them hints....and things to look over, you would be amazed how much those little things do for a photo!!!

just my 2cents worth!!

if women paid more attention to their clothing, jewelry, hair bands etc etc, we wouldn't have to worry about it. ha ha ha

That's why men created the "clone" and the "content aware fill". :)

Don't you have a brand new computer? There should be no problems with it.

Oh John...if you ONLY new...first off I don't think it is the computer itself. Second, if it computer related and it is in my office there is ALWAYS something not working correctly....I swear there is something that messes with it. It is literally always something. It is enough to make me crazy.

Now it is my hp printer....everything works correctly except it work print directly on the cd/dvd. Has been working correctly until yesterday..now all of a sudden it doesn't want to. This is the kind of stuff that happens. I'm not sure but the I think the local liquor store has an some sort of electrical interference or something!!!

In reference to your original post I totally agree. I've gotten a little better at noticing these things but still find that my wife my see things that I just didn't notice. Even after PP there are things that she will see looking at the files that just weren't there when I looked at them.

After being in the software development field for almost 20 years now the one thing I've learned is it's just sometimes necessary to get a fresh pair of eyes. Whether I can get up and take a break and come back or just get someone else to take a quick look.

Tunnel vision can be a killer to many things.

Haha, it's funny b/c I'm just the opposite. I overlook some of the details, but my second shooter, a guy, notices them lol!

I just did a shoot with a Make Up Artist documenting the entire process. Scary stuff that whole makeup thing. It absolutely is in the details, I just never really paid attention to that part of the process before the session.

There was an entire discussion just about whether to leave the ear rings on or to take them off.

I am SO glad to be male.

NOW will you listen to me and get a Mac...

Back on topic - one thing to do is to chimp regularly. Or, if you have the ability to - shoot tethered and check the monitor.

It's the small details that get me like that.

I had one small group of kids for our church confirmation at one point, about ten of them that I needed to get a group photo of and had limited time. Of course I had one boy who kept hiding behind someone else. I'd have him move out but when I'd get to taking the picture he'd duck back again. After looking through the four that I took there only ended up being one really useful picture that managed to have him actually in it. It wasn't my first or even second choice of the one I wanted to use but the only with everybody actually in it.
